Chasing Progress: Inside the Routine of Kate Hutchinson

Finding balance as a school teacher and elite athlete.

Balancing a full-time career with elite-level training is no small feat. For school teacher and Hyrox athlete Kate Hutchinson, structure and self-awareness are what keep her moving forward. She is part of our Gold Moments campaign because she shows that winning is not just about race day results, but the daily discipline, the fuel, and the moments of balance that make it all possible.

Kate’s training calendar is as busy as her classroom. With ambitions to hit a PB in her Hyrox Solo, compete in doubles, perform well at the Hyrox World Champs, run a sub 3.10 marathon in April, and complete a 70.3 later this year, she sets clear seasonal goals to shape her week. Each session is logged into an app, keeping her accountable and giving her that buzz of ticking them off as the week unfolds.

“I have been guilty in the past of planning my week as if I did not have a full-time teaching job.”

Finding balance with training and life

For Kate, realism is key. “I have been guilty in the past of planning my week as if I did not have a full-time teaching job, which only leads to frustration. Now I am honest with myself about what I can realistically achieve each day.” That honesty allows her to stay consistent without burning out.

Discipline is balanced with compassion. If work runs late or recovery demands more attention, she does not punish herself for skipping a session. Instead, she resets and moves forward. It is this mindset that has kept her progress sustainable.

Nutrition is central too. A GSN meal at lunchtime ensures she is fuelled and ready, alongside a supplement stack of electrolytes, protein, creatine, and greens. Every 4–5 weeks she schedules a de-load to recharge fully before building again.

Kate’s golden moments

Not all progress comes from training itself. Kate’s golden moments keep her balanced and motivated:

  • Brewing a good coffee before work after an early session, or treating herself at her favourite café.

  • A post-work tea and short reset before her evening training window.

  • Training with her partner and friends, whether it is in the gym, on the track, or out on the bike.

  • Regular recovery work with sports massage or physio, keeping her injury-free and ready to go.

These golden moments are just as important as the PBs and race days. They bring joy, connection, and perspective to the process.

Why GSN fits her lifestyle

With long days teaching followed by heavy training loads, Kate relies on food that fuels her properly without slowing her down. GSN meals give her the balance she needs: quick, protein-packed, and consistently delicious.

“It is a Way of Life. Fuel Up.”
